Abstract

Engineers decided to develop vertical growth instead of spreading throughout the country since having a place to live is a basic human requirement and population increase has been ongoing over time. Modern residential construction is now growing more quickly than traditional regular construction, especially irregular structures. The effects of lateral loads, such as wind and earthquakes, have a substantial impact on the performance of these structures. In contrast to regular structures, irregular structures are affected differently by lateral force. It is important to carefully research how shear walls affect these buildings' ability to withstand lateral forces. This study's main objective is to achieve that. In place of columns, structural engineers frequently use shear walls. Shear walls are excellent in resisting lateral shear, but they typically contribute to the unnecessary rigidity of the structure. While adding columns can make a building more ductile, they typically can't bear the whole shear. This effect depends on the shear wall's geometry and location. Using the software Response spectrum method in ETABS, the dynamic parameters of irregular and regular structures with varied shear wall positions have been compared in this research.
